Precision machined opticsPrecision Machined Optics

Archer OpTx offers precision machined aspheres and acylinders in diameters ranging from 10 mm to 600 mm. Each asphere (toroids and acylinders as well!) is customized to your application's unique specifications, using a precision machining process to create the desired surface figure. Precision machined optics offer a number of advantages over precision molded optics:

  • They are offered in sizes and form factors that are not possible by molding

  • Are a cost-effective alternative for design prototyping prior to committing to production of high-volume of molds

  • They permit the use of materials otherwise unsuitable for molding, such as fused silica

Though they may look like ordinary grind-and-polish optics, precision machined optics perform in extraordinary ways to create new application opportunities. Precision machined optics provide optical precision for optimal outcomes.

Centration: 1 arcminute
Center Thickness: +/- 0.1 mm
Diameter: + 0, -0.25 mm
Surface Finish: 40-20 scratch-dig, S-series 60-40 to 80-50
Chamfer: 0.1 - 0.3 mm
EFL Tolerance: +/- 1%
Clear Aperture: Central 90% of diameter
Coating: Standard and high power coatings available
Material:

UV grade fused silica except S-series lenses which use SF glasses. Other materials available on a custom basis.
GACP-series lenses are plano-convex. All theoretical designs are diffraction-limited. However, actual performance depends upon the grade ordered: "Commercial grade" (< 50 micron focused spot) or "Precision grade" (P-V form error 0.4 microns); we can provide guidance on modeling expected as-built performance.

These lenses are built-to-order; if you do not see what you want, let us work with you to make the ideal lens for your application.
